RUNWAY EDIT – 5 Must Haves from Melbourne Fashion Week — Trendii

After earning the title of the most locked down city in the world, Melbourne has burst back into action with a vengeance! What better way to enter post lockdown life than with Melbourne Fashion Week. It was wonderful to see the city and so many venues that have stood dark for so long, buzzing with people and excitement. When you’ve been living in and looking at activewear for so long, fashion is even more exciting.

After taking in almost every show across the festival, I’ve pulled together a runway edit featuring my top 5 must haves according to Melbourne Fashion Week. Each show featured a variety of Australian designers specialising in very different styles, but there were some common threads through all the shows that have inspired this edit.

The top 5 must haves, featuring looks direct from the Melbourne runways. Plus one bonus must have for the more adventurous.

SOMETHING BLUE

A very specific powder blue actually! Royal blue also featured heavily, but this powder blue was seen on almost every single runway and in the collections of a variety of designers. My personal favorites would be the wrap coat from Asiyam, a Melbourne based designer that creates minimalist modern takes on the arabic aesthetic, and the blue linen suit from Maara Collective, an Australian Resort brand that won the National Indigenous fashion award in 2020.
